   What do people think about the new song?

   Mike on the new album in Paste mag:
   “Some hated it, some loved it better than Soul Coughing,” Doughty says. “I tend to take sharp left turns. Every time I put out a record, the audience seems to like what I did two years ago better. You’d think I could shrug it off because that’s what always happens, but it always gets to me.”

   This statement makes sense if you recognize the level of the work going steadily down.

   This first tune is like a b-side off Golden Delicious. I don't wanna slag before I hear the whole record.

   Ok, I will. After a couple cheesy albums, time is ripe for getting the band back together? Everyone from the 90's canon is doing it, yeah! I had some hopes for GD but that was a total turd. Who are these people at Schubas for 3 nights? I know they all can all suck my balls and I know it ain't the same as in '95 and it's over. I guess we're all too old to give a shit. Not to be too negative ;)

   Honestly? You've heard one song. Doughty is not Soul Coughing so if that's what you're looking for then go listen to some old Soul Coughing CD's and quit beating a dead horse about them getting back together. Why would he put the band back together? It's not like they'd be all of a sudden be playing in front of huge crowds, so what reason would there for Mike to ruin what he's got? They don't get along anyway. Sure we'd all like to see it, but enjoy what you have.

   i like that song. i don't think the quality is going down, and I like the new album better than the last one. I like the last one ok, but this one is better IMO :)

   don't get me wrong, i was a huge SC fan, and i still listen to the albums constantly. (the reason i'm @ this board, after all)... but mike's new stuff is a-may-zing. you can't compare. it's not exactly apples and oranges, because mike was after all an element of SC. but. that element has evolved into something new, something complete, and it's fucking great.

   A lot of Doughty solo material just ends up sounding like something out of the Dave Matthews Band to me. And I hate the Dave Matthews Band with a passion.

   A lot of it is also quite extraordinary, though, I must admit.

   Ok, i'm wrong. The new album is cool. 'Lorna Zauberberg' is Bukowski meets Suzanne Vega and it's Doughty all the way. 'Burn you down' is just as great as anything from Skittish. "lord help me" is Doughty rockin and screechin. I doubt he ever knowingly fucked a republican and I don't get the Daniel Johnson thing but, hey, all these things are hip now adays...This is a good record to get..
