Mike Doughty just signed a deal with ATO Records (David Gray, Gov’t Mule, Ben Kweller, My Morning Jacket, etc…). Skittish and Rockity Roll will be re-released as a two-disc package (talk of unreleased tracks to be included) and there will be a new studio album coming in Spring 2005.
Sebastian Steinberg is on tour again with Yerba Buena. Be sure to check them out in a city near you – they are an incredible latin hip hop funk band.
I just got off the phone with Sebastian. It turns out he’s been working with Randy Kaye on getting together the long awaited Soul Coughing DVD. So Sebastian asked me to post something up here to see what the fans had. Please contact me if you have any good quality videos of Soul Coughing. More news as it happens.
There is a new interview on SCUG conducted by Andy with Mark De Gli Antoni talking more about the Kufala Records releases among other things. You can view it here. This interview will be published in SMASH Magazine, but you can view it here first!
Mike Doughty will visit Seattle’s KEXP radio on Tuesday, June 22 before his show at the Crocodile for an interview and acoustic performance. Mike is on air at 4:00 PM Pacific time (7:00 PM eastern).
In the Seattle area, tune in at 90.3 FM; everywhere else, listen in live online at KEXP.org or through the Radio tuner in iTunes (under Alt/Modern Rock).
Mark is pretty much done with Horse Tricks II and Tempo Team. Tempo Team is Mark De Gli Antoni, Yuval Gabay & Sebastian Steinberg with various guests. These releases will be coming out as a split CD in the fall on Olympus Mons Records. Samples coming soon!
Mad props to Mary Ann (Iceered) for all the great pictures she sent me of Doughty (solo shows) and Sebastian (w/ Yerba Buena) on tour. You can view the new pictures here.

New York, NY 08/16/1999
Berlin / Amsterdam
Live Rarities
Each double disc show is $20. The whole set can be purchased for $80. Click here for all the information and to order. And from Kufala.com:
We are happy to announce the release of our Soul Coughing Live series. One of the most unique cult bands of the ’90s, Soul Coughing anchored a new crop of quirky, unclassifiable bands that emerged in the post-grunge era. Their live shows were legendary and these 5 2 CD sets were hand picked and compiled by keyboardist Mark De Gli Antoni. If you are the superfan and want to get all five albums check out the 4 out of 5 deal. Enjoy.
In other related news, Mike Doughty has released another EP entitled “Rockity Roll” – It features 6 new songs. It’s just Doughty and a drum machine. It’s pure. It’s raw. It’s Doughty. You can get more information at mikedoughty.com or you can go to his store here. Doughty also has a mini tour planned out for the month of April. Details on his site.
News with Yuval is great. He has been in Bristol for the past few months rehearsing to hit up another, but larger, tour with Roni Size. More news on that once the tour has been laid out.
And in SCUG news, you must go check out the new Photography Gallery. It’s been totally reworked and indexed and there are tons of new pictures in there. Go ahead. Do it. It will make you feel better.
The Live Soul Coughing series will not be coming out anytime soon. If anything changes, you’ll hear it here first. From Kufala.com:
Though we have tried our best, we regret that the higly anticipated release of live Soul Coughing albums will be delayed indefinitely due to internal band issues. While Kufala will continue to try and make these albums available to the public, we will not be able to release them in the immediate future. Please sign up on our email list and we will let you know when (and if) we will be able to release them. Thanks for your patience, understanding and support. The record business can be a tricky business to be in and we appreciae your understanding…as huge Soul Coughing fans, we’re as disappointed as you are.
Doughty has also launched a brand new site. mikedoughty.com for more details.
